New Players Wanted for 2018

Bayside Saints have 3 teams in the AFL Masters Vic Metro League, for over 34’s, over 40’s, and over 45’s. It is a strong standard of football, particularly in the over 35's competition, with numerous ex-AFL and ex-VFL players participating.

We have plenty of players who have been out of the game for some years, and have then decided to get back into it. So whether you’re still playing Saturday footy, or haven’t played for several years, we invite you to come down and have a look, or join in at one of our training sessions. Whether it be round 1 or round 10, new players are always welcome.

Matches are played every 2nd Sunday during the AFL season. Training is every Wednesday

Round 4 v Carrum & Box Hill

Supers Vs Carrum
We ventured out to Carrum this week to test ourselves against the undefeated top team of the year to date. We ended up having 7 changes from our last game but also had some great ins and new members to the club in Ben Rampling and Daniel Mercer.

The first quarter kicked off with real aggression at the contest, with our mids getting first hands on the ball. But even more encouraging was our ability to then move and spread from the contest with great linking handball. The skipper (Troy) and Winger were getting the inside ball and able to dish out to Adam who was on fire early. This enabled us to be able to have more freedom when kicking forward and were able to spot up targets a lot easier than in prior weeks.

Our 3 key forwards Tim, Swanny and Nick and were finally able to get on the field together and were looking very dangerous. Even more encouraging was the form of Kane who looked liked he was finally over his injuries and was damaging up forward as well as when he went onto the ball. By quarter time we held a 5 point lead.

The second quarter began with Carrum coming out a lot stronger and the contest evened right up. We continued to match them across the ground and defended pretty well lead by big Teddy at full back who seemed to be growing in confidence in his role. Carrum outscored us slightly and took a 3 point lead in at half time.

We came out in the third quarter as the rain started to come down. Carrum got right on top for a 10 minute spurt, winning around the clearances and we were slow to react to the changing of conditions. By the time we were able to stop the momentum they were able to bang on 3 goals while we were unable to score a goal for the quarter. Added to that were a few basic skill errors that really cost us. At the 3 quarter siren we trailed by 3 goals.

We made a few changes at 3 quarter time. Nick Owen went into the middle and started to get a lot of the ball, Mark continued his solid game in the ruck and moving the ball quicker into the forward line was starting to pay off. We were coming home hard as Carrum were just hanging on, flooding the backline. We kicked two goals to be within a kick and a half with plenty of time left. Unfortunately we couldn't quite convert our opportunities and ended up going down by 8 points.

It was very frustrating coming so close and that effectively 10 bad minutes of footy cost us the game. But on the positives we now know we can match it with the best sides in the comp and will continue to improve.

Final score
Bayside - 7.5-47
Carrum - 8.7-55

Goals - 3 Swanny, 1 Kane, Mark, Tim, Winger
Best - Kane, Troy, Adam, Winger, Ted, Mark

Masters Vs Carrum
We went down to Carrum to play a side we have a bit of history with and are usually very competitive at home. Our message was simple, how were we going to respond to our last game and to play the way we train. Conditions were tough with a strong breeze blowing across the ground. So we went out a bit earlier to warm up then losing the toss and going to the non scoring end we had 20 points on the board before they new what was going on. This set the tone for the day.

The second quarter more of the same was needed and that's what we got with our on ballers and centre line clearly getting on top we went to halftime with a handy lead. Coming out after the break and with a few putting in hesitant performances they had no answers to our attack on the ball. The injury curse hit us again just before 3 quarter time losing Seanie to a broken wrist and at the break we spoke about going on with it so we don't let him down.

We finished the game strongly. The second half was a performance of a very good side that was relentless aggressive and hungry for the ball. Very pleasing from my point of view. It was great to have Bus with us who has such a calming influence, New Simmo with a point to prove and Andy Prosser who was very good in his first game for the club.

I'd like to thank Georgie T for helping us out coming from the Legends after half a game with them and doing well. We all had a say in the win and that's what good side's do. Well done boys on a fantastic effort.

Bayside 13.10-88
Carrum 4.4-28.

Goals - Joe, Choc, SS, Lachy, Smitty, New Simmo 2ea. Horny 1.

Best - Jonno, Andy, John M, New Simmo, Jebalenko.

Legends vs Box Hill
We travelled out to cow paddock park to take on Box Hill. Was always going to be a challenge.

First quarter was a even contest with only a couple of lucky goals and a goal umpire who couldn't tell a goal from a behind the difference at the break.

Second quarter was one we would like to forget where the opposition kicked 5 goals to zero

Halftime we set some goals to either outscore them or to match them in the second half

Third quarter we showed the brand the bayside boys can play when switched on with passages of play the best we have displayed so far this year.We out played them and outscored them to be only 4 and half goals down but finishing strongly.

Last quarter we once again matched them as they put a few behind the ball to defend the lead.

Great credit to the guys to rise to the challenge and match a very strong team.

Welcome to Huddo in his first game at the club and Thank you to Georgie T for playing the first half before playing masters.

Also to Rod and Gill for helping with the board and water.

Box Hill North 12.6
Bayside Saints 4.9

Goals JD 2, Scott S 1,Disco 1

Better Players once again
Dave L, TJ rucked all day, Billy, A Robbo , Disco and JD who could of kicked 4.

We Showed we can play good footy when we put out mind to it. Big challenge next round against a undefeated Chirnside Park Lets knock them off the perch.

Sponsorship Announcements

Major Sponsor

For the 2nd year running Lachy Haig and his team OX Finance have thrown their support behind our club.

Sponsors such as OX Finance are the life blood of community clubs such as ours and we appreciate their support. If anyone is interested in securing finance, please reach out to Lachy, he will guide through the process.
OX Finance

More about OX Finance:

Master’s multiple premiership player Lachlan Haig runs this business which specializes in the following:

- Home Loans

- Business Finance, specifically on commercial properties

- Equipment Finance, anything from a car to business equipment such as trucks, etc

- Insurance Premium Funding which essentially allows clients to manage their cash flow and to make their payments for their insurance bills monthly instead of paying the full amount upfront.

The website advises what I do but in essence, I am a finance broker and I am there to get the best deal for clients for their finance needs. I have access to a range of financiers, some the first tier financiers and from there I have access to the smaller financiers. In regards to insurance premium funding, this is a niche industry and again, I do my own premium funding or I can access the greater market to get the best deal for clients.

If anyone wants to have me look at their current lending so I can get a better deal for them, then that is when I come in. Banks (especially for home loans) are constantly amending their rates in the market at present due to regulatory change and also due to cost of funds for the banks and with my knowledge and contacts, I can source better arrangements.

Lachy and the OX Finance team have sponsored the club to the tune of $2k but if they can generate some business from the Bayside Saints community, they will also be able to contribute more sponsorship dollars for the club. For example, if I can do one home loan for instance, then I can contribute a little more to the club during the year. If I can do a few loans for players, then I am happy to contribute a fair bit more and that could easily be in the vicinity of $5k throughout the year.

Anything else you require, please let me know.
