New Players Wanted for 2017

Bayside Saints have 3 teams in the AFL Masters Vic Metro League, for over 34’s, over 40’s, and over 45’s. It is a strong standard of football, particularly in the over 35's competition, with numerous ex-AFL and ex-VFL players participating.

We have plenty of players who have been out of the game for some years, and have then decided to get back into it. So whether you’re still playing Saturday footy, or haven’t played for several years, we invite you to come down and have a look, or join in at one of our training sessions. Whether it be round 1 or round 10, new players are always welcome.

Matches are played every 2nd Sunday during the AFL season. Training is every Wednesday

Match Reports v Dingley/Cragieburn

Match Report Time:

Legends:
Today the Legends came up against Craigieburn and played there best game
of the year. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the points, going down by 4 points.

The first quarter was a tight struggle with us leading at the break. The second quarter was our best so far this year with plenty of run and
link up hanball by all our team going into half time just in front.

The third quarter was much the same and we turned for home 3 goals in front.

Unfortunately we ran out of legs with a few injuries and were over run, coming up 4 points short.

There was plenty to take out of this game with new players scott, jc and simon all contributing on the day. The backline once again was outstanding and TJ toiled hard all day.

Lets all get to training this week and support all the teams and get 3 wins next round.

Masters:
We start the second half of the season with plenty of optimism having put some good performances together. I thought we were well prepared for a Dingley side who had their tails up.

Well, with our 1st quarters this year being very good, Dingley blew us away. We looked slow and sluggish and couldn’t control a rampant opponent. We ended the quarter 30 points down and staring at a good old fashion hiding.

So the plan was to claw our way back into the contest, with 3 quarters to make a game of it. With a couple of changes what happened in the 2nd quarter even i didn’t expect. We did to them what they did to us and went in at half time almost even. Game on.

Then there was an even tussle in the 3rd which saw us start the last in front. I thought we were a good chance at that point.

Unfortunately we finished the game the way we started like we thought it would take care of itself. We just didn’t want it enough, that was really disappointing. We can only look forward to our next contest to try to change things back in our favour.

It was a very disappointing day for the club and hopefully we can all commit to each other and turn it around. See you all at training.

Supers:
After a mid season review we decided to make a few changes.

We trained at a higher intensity this week and put a bigger focus on a pre match routine and being switch on to start the game. Additionally we made some slight positional changes and simplified the game plan.

We got Podge and Deano back into the side, and welcomed Cam promoted from his first game of the year in the Supers and Boots for his first game at Bayside.

We changed up the midfield a little getting some bigger bodies into the middle including Mark and Bully who were both aggressive and strong over the ball. This seemed to have great effect as we we able to apply a lot more pressure and with Troy and Benny K we seemed to have the upper hand in the midfield and share the ball well.

Teels and Kirky moved back to the backline and were giving great rebound. While Podge and Rhino were able to take some great grabs and be real rocks in defence.

Jesse and Matty were providing great targets forward especially as we were able to kick to their advantage much better this week.

We were able to take a 4 goal lead into quarter time and play without doubt out best football for the year.

We went off the plan slightly as Dingley responded in the second quarter and they were able to pull a couple of goals back. We steadied in the back half of the quarter and got on top. We went into half time 2 goals up.

At half time the goal was to continue the same way. Tackle hard, share the ball with first option and keep applying the pressure.

It was quite an even third quarter. But signs were very positive with the whole team working together. Boots was great off half back showing great composure, Belly was playing his best game of the year running through the wings. Our small forwards including Dan , Ben H, Cam and especially Bus and Kane were great, applying the pressure and sharing the ball.

We went into the last quarter 11 points up.

In the last quarter we were committed and threw everything at it contest. Dogga was solid down back late filling in for an injured Kirky. Additionally Simmo was good all day playing with a crook shoulder. But unfortunately with Podge and Kirky getting injured late we weren’t able to hold them off and with 20 seconds to go, Dingley scored the match winning point.

The whole team was extremely disappointed but the coach was very proud of the efforts of the entire team. Hold your heads up guys!

If we can just tidy up a few skills and reduce a couple of errors, we will get over the line next time!

Final score Bayside 9.6-60

Dingley 9.7-61

The whole team played well!

Particularly – Mark, Bully, Troy, Ben K, Teels, Podge, Kirky, Rhino, Belly, Jesse

Goals – 4 Jesse, 2 Matty, 1 Bus, 1 Teels 1 Troy

OX Finance joins the Bayside Saints as a Major Sponsor

The Bayside committee are proud to annouce that Lachlan Haig and his team at OX Finance has become our major sponsor for 2017.

Master's multiple premiership player Lachlan Haig runs this business which specializes in the following:

- Home Loans
- Business Finance, specifically on commercial properties
- Equipment Finance, anything from a car to business equipment such as trucks, etc
- Insurance Premium Funding which essentially allows clients to manage their cash flow and to make their payments for their insurance bills monthly instead of paying the full amount upfront.

Lach says:

"The website advises what I do but in essence, I am a finance broker and I am there to get the best deal for clients for their finance needs. I have access to a range of financiers, some the first tier financiers and from there I have access to the smaller financiers. In regards to insurance premium funding, this is a niche industry and again, I do my own premium funding or I can access the greater market to get the best deal for clients"

"If anyone wants to have me look at their current lending so I can get a better deal for them, then that is when I come in. Banks (especially for home loans) are constantly amending their rates in the market at present due to regulatory change and also due to cost of funds for the banks and with my knowledge and contacts, I can source better arrangements."

Lachy and the OX Finance team have sponsored the club to the tune of $2k but if they can generate some business from the Bayside Saints community, they will also be able to contribute more sponsorship dollars for the club. For example, if they can do one home loan for instance, then they can contribute some more to the club during the year. If I can do a few loans for players, then they are happy to contribute a fair bit more and that could easily be in the vicinity of $5k throughout the year.

Anything else you require, please let me know.
