New Players Wanted for 2017

Bayside Saints have 3 teams in the AFL Masters Vic Metro League, for over 34’s, over 40’s, and over 45’s. It is a strong standard of football, particularly in the over 35's competition, with numerous ex-AFL and ex-VFL players participating.

We have plenty of players who have been out of the game for some years, and have then decided to get back into it. So whether you’re still playing Saturday footy, or haven’t played for several years, we invite you to come down and have a look, or join in at one of our training sessions. Whether it be round 1 or round 10, new players are always welcome.

Matches are played every 2nd Sunday during the AFL season. Training is every Wednesday

OX Finance joins the Bayside Saints as a Major Sponsor

The Bayside committee are proud to annouce that Lachlan Haig and his team at OX Finance has become our major sponsor for 2017.

Master's multiple premiership player Lachlan Haig runs this business which specializes in the following:

- Home Loans
- Business Finance, specifically on commercial properties
- Equipment Finance, anything from a car to business equipment such as trucks, etc
- Insurance Premium Funding which essentially allows clients to manage their cash flow and to make their payments for their insurance bills monthly instead of paying the full amount upfront.

Lach says:

"The website advises what I do but in essence, I am a finance broker and I am there to get the best deal for clients for their finance needs. I have access to a range of financiers, some the first tier financiers and from there I have access to the smaller financiers. In regards to insurance premium funding, this is a niche industry and again, I do my own premium funding or I can access the greater market to get the best deal for clients"

"If anyone wants to have me look at their current lending so I can get a better deal for them, then that is when I come in. Banks (especially for home loans) are constantly amending their rates in the market at present due to regulatory change and also due to cost of funds for the banks and with my knowledge and contacts, I can source better arrangements."

Lachy and the OX Finance team have sponsored the club to the tune of $2k but if they can generate some business from the Bayside Saints community, they will also be able to contribute more sponsorship dollars for the club. For example, if they can do one home loan for instance, then they can contribute some more to the club during the year. If I can do a few loans for players, then they are happy to contribute a fair bit more and that could easily be in the vicinity of $5k throughout the year.

Anything else you require, please let me know.

Match Reports v Peninsula

The coaches reflect on Sunday’s games:

Legends (Steve)

Another good effort by the legends today, working really hard for three quarters, only to be overun in the last quarter when we had 17 players. we were very competitive and right in the game with some great efforts by our players. A fantastic job was done by Phil who tagged there best player out of the game after half time. TJ battled hard all day in the ruck and Keano was hard at the ball all
day. A big thanks to Jeb who help us out playing the whole game. We just need to get our skills up and hit targets which will come when all of us get to training. It was also great to see judda back on the ground after a long lay off and he will only get better.

Also thanks to Joey and Simmo for their help and support during the game.

Masters (Joey)

Round 2 kicked off in very pleasant conditions and we traveled down to Mornington full of confidence. Still with a couple of players missing we had good numbers to take it up to them. Our start to the match was something to behold, it had all the things we spoke about before the match. A dominant ruck combination, though we didn’t take full advantage of it,though we had our fair share out of the middle.
We had a mobile and tight defense that repelled all there attacks. So good was our team defensive effort we held them scoreless in the first.
Our attack was up and going with multiple scoring avenues. Unfortunately we sprayed a few so we’ll need to work on that. Then someone must have flicked a switch that seem to blow a fuse, we let them back into the contest. We seemed to be overwhelmed by them, there run and pressure made us a bit fumbly which led to poor decision making and none of us seem to have any answers.

Thank God for half time. In the rooms we went over what we discussed before the game i was reaching the cresendo of an old fashioned spray when a phone went off. Well, as i’ve turned i realise it was mine, ( there’s a fine ), it lightened the mood and in the third quarter we went about trying to rectify things. Which we did, they easily could have got away from us and to the boy’s credit they didn’t. Come the last quarter we threw a few players around which seem to focus us again and had the ball predominately in our forward 50. Though scoring is a bit of a hurdle for us there was lots to like about the way we stormed home.

We do have a lot to work on and i’m proud of the boys for still believing we could get a result and with a bit of luck and maybe 5 more minutes we may have. Well done boys, bring on rnd. 3.

Supers (Flash)

We travelled down to Peninsula on Sunday in perfect conditions with high expectations.
This week we had plenty of forward targets welcoming back with Jesse, Podge for his first game in the Supers and Mark Horsley for his first run with Bayside.
We now had a reasonably settled back line and midfield and now a forward line with a bit of goal scoring potential.

The first quarter kicked off with Peninsula hitting us hard…It seemed this caught us off guard as we were beaten for the footy and when we did get possession we were under pressure, to slow to react and continually missed targets, turning over the ball. Additionally the back line and midfield weren’t as accountable we would like. Basically they jumped us and got out to 3 goal lead.

At quarter time we were able to address these issues and we worked into the game in the second quarter. The back line tightened up, the midfield started getting more of the ball and Jesse and Podge were providing great targets up forward.
At half time we steadied the ship, but still not playing great footy.

We could feel the tide was starting to turn and went back to or original structures into the third quarter. We were getting on top and chipping away at their lead. Jules was playing a great game off half back, Jesse continued to be our main target and goal kicker and Benny K and Teels were providing great run and carry.

Coming into the last quarter we wanted to take the game on. We did and had the majority of the play. They were getting nervous and stacked the back line trying to save the game and hang on…We probably had 70% of the play in our forward line and felt we could run over them.
In the end we got very close, going down by 8 points with it feeling it was one that got away if we were able to be cleaner with our disposal.

Final Score Peninsula 8.9.57
Bayside 7.7.49

Best – Jesse, Benny K, Jules, Teels

Plenty to work on the next 2 weeks…Especially being cleaner with disposal and really working on the stoppages and set plays.
But also myself needs to get better at the rotations and apologies to those that didn’t get as much of a run as i would have liked. I will have a better structure and rotations system sorted better moving forward.

Subs
Once again the subs will be $100 for the year, with a $10 payment each Sunday game day to cover the cost of umpires. As a bonus, people who pay before April 9th will receive a club beanie. The committee works hard to keep the cost down, so support them by paying subs sooner rather than later.

Quote to ponder:

As stated by Andrew Shue:
"Life is the most exciting opportunity we have. But we have one shot. You graduate from college once, and that's it. You're going out of that nest. And you have to find that courage that's deep, deep, deep in there. Every step of the way."
