New Players Wanted for 2018

Bayside Saints have 3 teams in the AFL Masters Vic Metro League, for over 34’s, over 40’s, and over 45’s. It is a strong standard of football, particularly in the over 35's competition, with numerous ex-AFL and ex-VFL players participating.

We have plenty of players who have been out of the game for some years, and have then decided to get back into it. So whether you’re still playing Saturday footy, or haven’t played for several years, we invite you to come down and have a look, or join in at one of our training sessions. Whether it be round 1 or round 10, new players are always welcome.

Round 9 Match Reports v Waverley/Diamond Valley

We were back on our home deck this week on a cold, windy day and a bit short on numbers. But in saying that we still had a good side on paper and expected to do very well against them bottom side. We also had big Luke back for his first games of the year to help us up forward.
We had set a task during the week for all 3 sides to win on a day where we had our big fund raising day for the club. The Legends and Masters did their job and it was up to the Supers to hold up our end!

We also wanted to try a few different things pushing Scotty (Chewbacca) into the middle and using Ted more forward. This also allowed Troy and Adam to also spend more time forward providing great options.

We won the toss and kicked with a big wind advantage and came out well getting on top early. Mark was well on top in the ruck and giving the mids first use driving the ball forward. The only problem being we were going wide and not getting reward and at one stage we had kicked 1.6. When Waverley got one back and started evening up the contest we were way behind where we should have been and they were getting a sniff. We managed one more goal finishing 2.6 - 1.3.

We all knew that wasn't good enough and really worked hard against the wind in the second. The on ballers lead by Winger dug in. Teels and Adam were providing great drive and Scotty was doing a power of work in and under. The back line held strong, well lead by Golden being a loose man. Jules and Andy also provided great drive with Rhino not giving his man an inch. We actually kept them scoreless and now lead 4.7 to 1.4 at half time to get back to reasonable position.

We wanted to come out hard in the third and snuff out any thoughts they may have of a come back. Mark continued to dominate and Winger lead the way as he has done all year. Herbie was looking a massive threat up forward and nailed his third (could have had a big bag if he had kicked straight). More time forward was working well with both Adam and Troy getting on the score board and we kicked five for the quarter. We did have a 5 minute lapse which they did kick 2 into the breeze. At 3 quarter time we lead 9.10-3.4.
We wanted to finish off the game in good fashion and we continued working into the breeze. We had plenty of opportunities (Herbie - more misses.. and even Rhino had a shot). But it was getting more tricky with the wind getting worse.
We ended up running out comfortable winners and full credit to all in making it 3 wins for the day! Let make a big effort to finish off the year well with 1 game to go.

Final Score
Bayside - 9:13-67
Waverley - 4:5-29
Goals - 3 Tim, 2 Troy Winger, 1 Adam, Teels
Better Players - Winger, Teels, Mark, Adam, Tim, Scotty, Troy, Ted, Golden.

In what was a big day for the club we came up against a top 4 side in Diamond Valley.
We built this game up as our Grand Final and a chance for all 3 teams to win on the same day first time in a few years. Our stand in captain Brains won the toss and kicked with a strong breeze to the changerooms end.We started with 4 on the bench which soon became 3 when flash our Supers coach shot out on a quick lead and left his leg behind. Huddo was fantastic across the half forward line marking everything and kicking it back in to JD who was having a day out kicking 2 first quarter goals. Our bench became 1 when Keano showing the commitment only Keano knows had his nose put into a shape one can only describe as not normal and Bill K going down . We went into Quarter time with a 2 goal lead.

2nd Quarter .
Against a stiff breeze we played a extra in defence with Dougo . In Billy Slater fashion Dougo mopped up anything that went past our defenders. Kicking into the breeze scoring for both teams was always going to be tough. When JD having a day we all dream about stayed behind his opponent and the ball bounced over his head into JDs arms who slotted his third you knew the footy gods were shining.
3rd Quarter
With the breeze but 3 players down it was going to take 40 minutes of commitment and believing in one another to win. When JD in Hawkins like form slotted his fourth we had our tails up.

4th Quarter
Against a stiff breeze we once again put Dougo as the extra in defence and it paid off as Diamond Valley threw everything even at us . Our Defence was superb rebounding the ball .When the final siren sounded we tasted that victory we wanted for several weeks.Sure tasted sweet.

Bayside 7.4 46 Def
Diamond Valley 6.8 44
Goals JD 4, Huddo 1,Scott S 1, Brad 1.
Better Players Duggo, JD,A Robbo,Keano,Huddo and Burkey .
In what was a great team effort.
Well Done Boys.!!!!

Sponsorship Announcements

Major Sponsor

For the 2nd year running Lachy Haig and his team OX Finance have thrown their support behind our club.

OX Finance

More about OX Finance:

Master’s multiple premiership player Lachlan Haig runs this business which specializes in the following:

- Home Loans

- Business Finance, specifically on commercial properties

- Equipment Finance, anything from a car to business equipment such as trucks, etc

- Insurance Premium Funding which essentially allows clients to manage their cash flow and to make their payments for their insurance bills monthly instead of paying the full amount upfront.

The website advises what I do but in essence, I am a finance broker and I am there to get the best deal for clients for their finance needs. I have access to a range of financiers, some the first tier financiers and from there I have access to the smaller financiers. In regards to insurance premium funding, this is a niche industry and again, I do my own premium funding or I can access the greater market to get the best deal for clients.

If anyone wants to have me look at their current lending so I can get a better deal for them, then that is when I come in. Banks (especially for home loans) are constantly amending their rates in the market at present due to regulatory change and also due to cost of funds for the banks and with my knowledge and contacts, I can source better arrangements.

Lachy and the OX Finance team have sponsored the club to the tune of $2k but if they can generate some business from the Bayside Saints community, they will also be able to contribute more sponsorship dollars for the club. For example, if I can do one home loan for instance, then I can contribute a little more to the club during the year. If I can do a few loans for players, then I am happy to contribute a fair bit more and that could easily be in the vicinity of $5k throughout the year.

Anything else you require, please let me know.
